Day One on the Colorado River

We just returned home from our Colorado River trip. We spent six wonderful days down in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I booked this trip in December of 2006. We had been looking forward to this trip for quite some time.
We arrived in Marble Canyon on Tuesday night. The best thing about the Marble Canyon Lodge was the location. It was right across the street from where we had to meet Western River Expeditions. The room was hot. The beds were horrible, we could feel every lump, and spring in the mattresses. We did enjoy the flushing toilet and the shower. During our Grand Canyon trip we did not have these luxuries. (I will have to say that the camp cot was better than the bed at the hotel).
After breakfast on Wednesday, we meet our group and traveled to Lee's Ferry. The Grand Canyon officially begins at Lee's Ferry. Here we put our gear in water proof bags, learned how to do a "fire line", climbed on board and listened to information that would keep us alive for the next six days.
I was so hot while listening to the instructions that as soon as we left Lee's Ferry, I sat front and center on the tubes. I cooled off quickly. The water splashing up on the boat was about 48 degrees. What a contrast! We spent the day going through rapids that ranked between a 2 and a 7. I had a great time. My favorite part of the first day was watching Joe and Sarah enjoy the river and the Grand Canyon. It reminded me of Christmas and watching them open up a present they were hoping for.
The canyon was amazing.

It sounds like you had a lot of fun. I have always wanted to go whitewater rafting in the Canyon. Apparently Bob & Bonnie are going to pay for Megan & I to go for a graudation present next year. That is just rumor though . . .

Hey Chris, I just talked to Bonnie and she said she would start saving her pennies. I think that sounds like you and Megan get to go!
