...And This Little Piggy is Quarantined

Okay so Joe has the Swine Flu. I honestly didn't think the swine flu would come and affect my family, but was I wrong.

Joe started feeling a little sick Monday. He said that he was getting a little congested. I knew that he had been exposed to the swine flu, but I was really hoping that he wouldn't actually come down with it.

Tuesday was a big day day for Joe. He had planned a nerd party with his friends in honor of the new Harry Potter movie. Their plan was to watch all of the Harry Potter movies and then go see the midnight showing of The Half Blood Prince.

When he woke up Tuesday morning he said he felt fine, other than having a little head ache and a slight sore throat. He only had a 99 degree temperature but he was convinced that he was feeling better.

I had planned on the boys coming here for lunch. I purchased some soup and I was even going to make grilled cheese sandwiches in the shape of lighting bolts. I had also purchased some pumpkin cookies and some giant nerd candy.

At noon Joe called and told me that they had decided not to come for lunch, but rather stay where they were and continue watching the movies. I should have know at that point that something was not quite right. Later I found out that he didn't want to home because he knew I would check his temperature and keep him home.

When he came home at 2:30 in the morning his temperature was 103. It's pretty sad that he infected the whole theater with the swine flu. As sad as that is, I feel worse for the friends he spent the day with. One of those friends has been recovering from cancer over the last school year.

I took him to the doctor yesterday and he tested positive for influenza A. He also had viral pneumonia.

So, now Joe is quarantined to his room. When I go into his room I have to wear a mask. Joe and the rest of us are on Tamiflu. We are hoping that we will all be healthy enough to go on the youth trek next week.

In honor of Joe and his swine flu, I have revised "The Little Piggy" story.

This little piggy went to a nerd party
This little piggy had a sore throat, headache, and fever
This little piggy should be nicknamed Typhoid Mary
This little piggy went to the doctor
And now this little piggy is quarantined!

This little piggy partied like a nerd
This little piggy must not have heard
That other little piggies could get sick too
That’s the way piggies spread the swine flu
This little piggy is now stuck home in his castle,
Until he is better, what a hastle!

Poor Joe... that nerd party sounded fun though.
