Solitary Confinement

I mentioned a few posts ago how Joe's summer was not one of his best. This week his summer took a turn for the worst. After he was diagnosed with Swine Flu and viral pneumonia, he has had to be confined to his bedroom. Joe says it like being grounded, only worse.

Last week I had decided to use this week to kind of "spoil" Joe. I had a few plans like going to Seven Peaks, maybe going to an outdoor musical, and I wanted to take him to a few movies. We didn't get to do any of those things.

I have spoiled Joe this week in a few ways. For the last 4 days he has had breakfast in bed, not to mention lunch and dinner in bed as well. When I offered to go to Wendy's and buy him chicken nuggets yesterday he was very grateful. He looked at me from across the room and said, "I love you, Mom." I know he meant it.

I even cleaned his room. I had to wear a mask while doing it, but it is now sanitized, and I have another trunk full of things to take to DI. I don't know why it is so hard for kids to get rid of things that they do not use or need. He had things like toys and shoes that he had not used in three or four years taking up lots of storage space.

I am hoping that Joe is well enough (and not contagious) to come out of his solitary confinement tomorrow. Being "bored out of my mind" will hopefully end as he is released and is free to roam around the house.

Imagine how good he will feel when he can forage for his own snacks and actually watch Lost with the rest of the family!
