Then and Now

I would have to say that going to school now is a little easier than when I got my bachelors in 1984. While some things remain the same, I have noticed a few things that are really different.

Then and Now

Then---- I attended classes every week day. Now--- I go to class once a week for
3 hours and my other class is online.

Then----- I would study in the library until I study in my dining room until
it closed. Now---- Marty tells me to go to bed.

Then---- I did all of my research in the library. Now---- I can access any Utah University library
through the internet (and no one has torn the page I need out of the book)

Then---- Photocopies were a new invention and a lifesaver, before they were available we took notes as we read. Now----- I can bookmark sites on my laptop, or copy them to my computer

Then-----I wrote all of my papers on paper before I typed them. Now----- I type my papers on my laptop as I am doing my research.

Then-----I typed my papers on an electric typewriter in the typing lab. This could cost a small fortune if you did not type well and had to stay in the typing lab. Now----- Once again, the laptop is a wonderful

Then-----If you made a mistake while typing, white out, correction tape or retyping was very painful. Even one letter could cause you to retype the whole paper or document. Now---- Cut, paste, spell check, grammar check are undescribably amazing.

Then----- Textbooks were expensive. Now----- Textbooks are still expensive but I can download them or buy them on Amazon.

Then----- Tuition was expensive. Now------ Tuition is still expensive! It is about $900.00 for a 3 credit class.

Then-----
I had roommates that mostly cleaned up after themselves. Now---- I can't get the men I live with to close cupboard doors.

The dark days before word processing were difficult, tedious, and hard to endure. It took so much time to get a clean looking paper out.
