My World of Acronyms--(MWOA)

Today we finish the NWEA testing! Next week, we start up YPP again. At least I don't have to do the DIBBLES, DRA, or MARS tests. These tests are all in preparation for the CRTs that come at the end of the year. The CRTs determine if the school has made AYP.

FYI, the most frustrating part of being the test proctor is when the students click everywhere on the screen and crash the computer. I try to fix each computer ASAP, but it can take up to 10 minutes to reset a computer once it freezes. Sometimes I feel like yelling at a student who continues to crash the computer2 or 3 times within 30 minutes-- but I try to think.... WWJD? So, I just politely fix the computer and MO.

I am trying to get my M. ED degree from SUU. This is my second semester. At BYU, I am taking a 16 credit ESL endorsement class. This class came from both the TELL and BEEDE methods of teaching English to L1 and L2 language learners and the ELLs. It's a good thing that we have the WIDA books to help us! The class I am in now is the ULA class--understanding language acquisition. (Sometimes I think with all of the acronyms, I am leaning another language) It is hard to keep up with all of the JPAs CT, LD, and MMs that we learn about in class.

I had a phone conversation today with the district research specialist and was embarrassed that I didn't know what PLC meant! Of course it means professional learning community. I didn't look too professional when I asked him what it stood for.

Sometimes, I wish that people wouldn't use so many acronyms. It is hard to keep them straight. There are a lot of acronyms that I use without even thinking about it. It seems that they have become part of our language and way of life.

I think Tigger was one of the first to use a catchy acronym when he said TTFN.....
