Monovision

I was born in the 6o's. I started school in 1967 and graduated from high school in 1980. I am sure that in most of the schools that I attended there was asbestos in the ceiling and/or lead in the paint! I blame the asbestos and the lead on my recently acquired inability to read small print. This has not only affected me, but everyone else who went to school during those years.

Doctors haven't made the same connections that I have made. They call this condition presbyopia. Their cure is called "Monovision." This is where you wear contacts that not only treat near sightedness, but it cures the reading glasses problem too. The theory is that one eye sees far away and the other eye sees close up.

I have known that I have had this problem for a few years, but it has recently gotten out of hand. During the summer, while driving around the New England states with Sarah, I kept putting on the reading glasses to read the map only to take them off to see the road. I decided to give monovision a try. I have tried at least 4 pairs of contacts over the last week.

I haven't had much success with this yet. I can't seem to get the correct combination of contacts. Over the past week I have seen double, had blurry vision, could see distances well-but couldn't read anything close up, and I have also had an unusual glare. A few nights ago I was driving down the road and all of the cars seemed to have headlights that flared out 10 feet in every direction. This had given me a terrible headache.

I went back to the doctor today to see if there was any other option for me. For the next few days I will be wearing contacts that help me see distance and I will use reading glasses to see things close up. Isn't that what I was trying to fix?

So, here is my picture. I think I will just wear my little granny glasses all of the time. That way I won't have to put them on and off all of the time. I know Marty will like them!

Yay for glasses! I've been wearing my glasses all the time because contacts hurt my eyes.. and they are expensive. The only thing is.. I need a new prescription. I can't stand when my contacts get fuzzy.. I can't believe you had to sample different contacts for two weeks. That would give me a headache too.

So that is why my mom's arms are not long enough when she trys to read anything. I knew that it was not an age thing. Good luck with the contacts!

Yes, I have the same eye condition cased by the asbestos in the schools in the sixties.

Hey those glasses are so cute. I think those glasses will do double duty because you won't need to use any other form of birth control. Just put those glasses on at bedtime every night. You can read your book and take care of any thoughts Marty might have at the same time.
