You Can't Always Get What You Want

"You can't always get what you want... and if you try sometime, you might just find you get what you need."

I went to the hospital today to get a "lumbar nerve root block." This procedure will hopefully help my three year mystery pain. I really don't like shots, but at this point, I am willing to try just about anything.

After having my blood taken, I was asked to put on a lovely gown that ties in the back. This wasn't too bad because they also gave me some draw string pants. Once I got dressed, I went into the radiology room to have this nerve block done.

I was told to lay on my stomach and they would be giving me three shots in my lower back. As they were prepping my lower back... let's just say my butt... the song "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" was playing. I thought, how appropriate, it takes 3 people to wash and prepare my butt for these shots. I was feeling a really strong connection with Mick Jagger at this point. It just so happens that The Rolling Stones were just getting started as so was I.

The timing was perfect. The doctor came in with his three long, dull needles just as soon as the song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" came on. This is about a 7 minute song. The procedure took the entire 7 minutes. The doctor even whistled the chorus while the stinging shots were being injected.

As I was laying there, butt in the air, needles going in and listening to this song with the doctor whistling, I thought, "what a great title for a new blog post." I am hopeful that this will work, but I will remember... "you can't always get what you want!"

I have included a link to the music for your listening pleasure. Hopefully you enjoy it more than I did.
