Ten Minute Clean Up Reinstated

Last night I had a dream that my father was living with me. In my dream I remembered thinking, "oh... that's why my house is always messy now." Well, when I woke up, my house was still messy but my father wasn't living with me. I think I must be associating mess with men lately.

I have noticed that my house isn't as clean as it used to be. I have tried to think of the cause of this.... Maybe I am not as picky as I once was. Maybe I am pickier. Maybe I am a little busier with my 80% teaching contract. Perhaps it is because I don't have my daughters here to help me. Maybe Marty and Joe are getting worse. Maybe it is me- I did have 3 pairs of shoes in the dining room on Sunday. Maybe I am concentrating too much on drying all the apples from my trees. Whatever the cause, I seem to be the only one bothered by it.

We really only live in two rooms. The kitchen and dining room. It doesn't seem like that big of a task to maintain these two rooms, but lately it has been a struggle. I used to clean up these rooms before I went to school. Now, instead of leaving the house at 8:50 I have been leaving at 7:30. This hasn't left me with too much time in the morning to straighten anything up.

When all the kids were younger, we had what was known as a 10 minute clean up. This was where everyone worked really hard for 10 minutes (unless I added more time to the timer without getting caught). We usually did this right before bedtime.

Tonight after dinner we had a clean up that lasted about 10 minutes. It wasn't called a "ten minute cleanup" but it worked out as one. It is amazing what 3 people can do in 10 minutes. I hope to be able to have our 10 minute clean ups each night. I love to wake up to a clean house.

I still do the ten minute clean up by myself... I will notice the house getting messy and I will give myself a ten minute clean up. I remember those 10, 15 and even 30 minute clean ups.. but I have a confession. (Whatever you do.. don't say "Oh... Rachael...") I used to change the timer.... only on the really long ones! I would just change the timer down like 2 minutes maybe 3... maybe it evens out cause you would make them longer... sorry!
