Frankly, My Dear---

What's for dinner?

Is anyone else tired of cooking?

I used to think that cooking was one of my favorite things to do. Not so much anymore. I am not sure why, but when 5 O'clock rolls each around each evening, I start to dread my job as the cook for the family.

The stress of fixing a wonderful meal and having it hot and ready when the family walks through the door is definitely getting to me.

I have had a hard time lately trying to guess what others want to eat. If it were up to me, I would just have some soup or something simple. It seems that the more time I spend in the kitchen preparing a meal, the less likely it will be eaten.

When my children would come home from school tired and hungry years ago, they would ask me what they could have for an after school snack. I would spend about 5 minutes trying to "tempt" them into different foods. It was really quite funny, After spending several minutes of giving them suggestions on what they could eat, and them saying "no" to each item, I would give up.

I am about ready to give up on family dinners. I have a really busy week ahead of me next week. My plan is to let everyone get their own dinner. I think the week after that, I will do take out and maybe by the middle of February, I will feel like cooking again.

So, for a few weeks, the cook is on vacation.

A vacay from cooking. Is that almost as good as going to Hawaii or Can Cun?

I remember after school snacks and I remember you finally giving up on giving us ideas. I'm sorry you don't feel like cooking. I go through cooking stages where I want to cook cute nice little dinners but most of the time it just turns into left overs that never get eaten. I'm currently in the lets just eat ramen phase. I think when I have kids of my own I'll be the cook like you. I hope you have a good vacation! If I were there I would cook for YOU!

I do not like cooking either. I do not know what I will do when I have kids who will actually expect me to prepare something. Have a good cooking vacation.

YAY for vacations! You're right- the more effort you put into it the less likely it is to be enjoyed and then it becomes leftovers that get moldy in the fridge!
