Today was so much fun! We woke up early and headed to Union Station where we caught a bus to Monticello. Our bus driver was very informative and funny. As we traveled to Monticello we passed a few civil war battle fields like Manassas and Chancellorsville. We looked at the University of Virginia. and we stopped at a place called Michie's Tavern. We toured the tavern and learned how to play some colonial games. The tavern guide even showed of a colonial dance. (Of course I volunteered Marty and myself to participate in the dance!) The dance was fun and I plan on teaching it to lots of students this fall. The food at the Michie's Tavern was excellent. It was southern food cooked the way southern food I believe, should be cooked. I think my Aunt Jerry and Grandmother tried to cook this way, but didn't quite figure it out. Everything I tasted was so good. We had fried chicken (I don't usually eat fried chicken, but this didn't have MSG in it and I was hungry. Other foods were: coleslaw, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas (Megan would have even liked these), stewed tomatoes, green beans, beets, biscuits, corn bread, fresh apple cider, and peach cobbler. Good thing they sold cookbooks with all of their recipes in it.
After lunch, playing games, and dancing we went to Thomas Jefferson's home Monticello. Out of all the plantations that I have seen I like this one the best. Monticello sits up on a hill and over looks a very beautiful valley. After the house tour we walked around the grounds and gardens. This would definitely be a place I would love to inherit!

I really do not think that there is any way to make black eyed peas edible, no matter what you and my mom say.
Okay, I am getting hungry. The tavern sounds like a great place to visit sometime, Like in two weeks when we are there!
