We met in Verona and followed them to Lake Garda. There was a big reception there for some members in her ward. This was a beautiful area. We felt a bit like party crashers, but everyone there was very nice. Sarah D. stayed by us the entire time and we talked and laughed with her and had a great time! The food there was very fancy! There was octopus, rabbit, prosciutto, and cheese for the first course, pasta and risoto for the second course, and wonderful desserts at the end.
The next day Sarah and Joseph went to school with Sarah D. I think they were a little over whelmed there, but they still had a good time especially in English class.
While they were at school, Marty and I visited with Sarah's parents. What a wonderful family!
Later, when everyone was home from school, we played games with her family, ate lunch and got to know her siblings. It was so much fun! My favorite game that we played together was Pit. The first round we spoke English, the second round we spoke Italian, and the third round we spoke German. I didn't stand much chance, especially in German.
It was fun to get all of her sisters and brother involved in a game that we all knew how to play.
After lunch we went to Bolzano. Bolzano is at the foothill of the Dolomites. It is so beautiful there! Before World War 1, this part of Italy was owned by Austria. The street signs are both in Italian and German. The buildings are a lot different here than in the rest of Italy. They look very German.
We went to the museum and saw Otzi. That was really interesting.

When his body was discovered in 1991, he was thought to be a lost hiker. It turned out that he lived 5300 years ago. We were able to see all of the things that he was carrying with him while we were at the museum. We also read that he had many wounds and was probably in a fight before he died. He mostly likely died from the arrow wound in his back.
After the museum, we went on the Bolzano Skylift.
The skylift ride was beautiful and when we got to the top we found a little shop that sold strudel.
When we got back to Sarah's house, Joe and Sarah went to get gelato with some of Sarah's friends, and we went with the rest of Sarah's family to another gelateria.
On Sunday, we went to church in Bolzano. It was stake conference and it was televised in both English and Italian because it was a broadcast from Salt Lake.
Marty served part of his mission in Bolzano. He was very happy to find that the people he had taught the gospel to were still strong in their beliefs!
After dinner, we rested, we sang, we ate, and we had a really good time!
Sarah has the cutest family!
Marty is sitting by Albeto and Carolina while playing connect 4 with Anna.
Joe playing the guitar--surprise-surprise! While Sarah and Irene are playing
Sarah Rose and Irene hit is off really well and tried to teach each other English and Italian. I will put the videos on facebook. They do not want to load on this blog.
After a tearful goodbye on Monday morning, we left for Milano.
We had such a good time with Sarah and her family. We are still working on getting Miss Sarah D to come back to Utah with us.

What an awesome trip. I am getting more and more jealous with each post! I didn't know Kate was that into reading either! I would LOVE to be in your book club! I've never been in one before.
Deanna, I'm so glad you had a great time in Bolzano, my family enjoyed to spend time with all of you, and all of our friends told us that you are such a sweet family. I hope to talk to you soon! Love you and miss you a lot!!
